ATHENS, Ga. - Freshman third baseman Londen Ladner tied the team lead with her fourth home run of the season, but Ole Miss dropped the series opener 7-3 to No. 4 Georgia on Friday at Jack Turner Stadium.

Right fielder Brianna Hesson gave the home-standing Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a RBI single to center. Catcher Ashley Razey added a sac fly later in the frame that put UGA up 2-0 after one.

Ladner responded for the Rebels in the top of the third with a monster two-run home run to left center that scored Brittany Broome and tied the game at two. It was Lander's fourth round-tripper of the season, which tied her for the team lead with junior Cali Overbeck. She finished the game 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while Broome added two singles in four at-bats.

Hesson answered back for the Dogs in the bottom of the frame with a two-out solo home run to left center that put Georgia back on top 3-2. The Bulldogs added four runs in the fifth highlighted by a two-run homer by Razy that extended the UGA lead to 7-2.

Second baseman Cali Overbeck poked a two out, bases-loaded single to right in the seventh that scored Becca Wall and provided the final score of 7-3. The Rebels had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but Georgia starting pitcher Morgan Montemayor struck out Ladner looking to end the game.

Kendall Bruning started for Ole Miss and took the loss after allowing six runs, all earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Lindsey Perry entered in relief in the fifth and pitched the final 1.2 innings. She gave up one run on one hit and walked one.

Ole Miss and Georgia will play game two of the series tomorrow at Jack Turner Field. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
