Rebels Drop Afternoon Affair To No. 4 Bulldogs

ATHENS, Ga. - The Ole Miss softball team fell 10-1 to the fourth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens.
Georgia (38-6, 13-5 SEC) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded groundout by catcher Kristyn Sandberg and a two-run double from right fielder Brittany Hubbard. Lead-off batter Megan Wiggins extended the lead in the second with an RBI single through the left side of the infield and later stole home to put UGA up 5-0 after two innings.
The Bulldogs posted four runs in the fourth highlighted by a two-run double to left by catcher Ashley Razy that provided the final score of 10-0.
The Rebels (14-32, 3-16 SEC) got on the scoreboard in the fifth after Brittany Broome reached on an infield single with two down and Cali Overbeck smashed a double to the wall in left center that scored Broome from first.
Brittany Barnhill started for Ole Miss and suffered the loss after allowing eight runs, all earned, on four hits in three innings. Lindsey Perry entered in relief of Barnhill in the fourth. She gave up two earned runs on one hit in one inning of work.
The Rebels and the Bulldogs will conclude their three-game set tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at Jack Turner Stadium.
