OXFORD, Miss. - A year ago, the Ole Miss men's golf team rallied in the final round of the SEC Championship to vault up the leaderboard and finish second. The Rebels are hoping they can rekindle that magic as they prepare for the 2011 SEC Championship at St. Simon's Island, Ga., this weekend.

This year's SEC Championship will be played on the 6,657 yard par-70 Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course. The course, designed by famed course designer Thomas Fazio, opened in 2005. The SEC Golf Tournament has been played at Sea Island Golf Club since 2001.

The SEC Championship is as strong a field as the Rebels will face this year with six teams in the Top 25 including three in the top 10. Alabama is ranked No. 2, Florida is No. 8 and LSU No. 9.

The Rebels will take an experienced lineup to the Seaside Course and try to duplicate last year's success when they rallied to finish second behind Georgia. Senior Jonathan Randolph almost won last year's individual title finishing third, just two back of the medalist. Junior Joe David fired a tournament low and final round 63 with 10 birdies and a triple bogey to lead the Rebels charge up the leaderboard.

Joining Randolph and David at this year's championship, is junior Billy Brozovich, who carded a final round 72 to help the cause last year. The remaining two players going this week are junior Zach Primavera and sophomore Chad Bounds.

"We are going back to a course that is special in beauty and design. Our players have good memories of the course," head coach Ernest Ross said. "Sea Island has some unique challenges, and we look forward to the tests that it brings. We are looking for a place to put it all together. We have worked hard this year, and our players seek a good ending to the regular season."

Randolph seeks his third consecutive top five finish of the season at the SEC Championship and wants to help the Rebels gain momentum in the postseason.

"I've been close to winning this semester, but I just haven't been able to capitalize. My chances have improved each week. I just need to get off to a better start and keep it going. As a team, we have some great memories of [Seaside] from last year. We know that anything can happen."
