Rebel Golfers Begin Play At SEC Championship

ST. SIMON'S ISLAND, Ga. - The Ole Miss men's golf team shot a 303 in the first round of the SEC Championship Friday and sits in 12th place at the Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course.
"It was just a bad day all around," head coach Ernest Ross said. "I know, and our players know that we are much better. We are anxious to go back for another try."
Junior Zach Primavera shot 75 to lead the Rebels. Everyone else carded a 76.
Led by sophomore Phillip Choi's 1-under 69, the Florida Gators shot a 5-over 285, and grabbed the lead after the first round.
LSU senior John Peterson shot 68 on Friday and took a one stroke lead in the individual standings. In a tight field, 20 golfers are within four shots of the lead following Friday's first round at the par 70, 7,005-yard course.
The second and third rounds will prove to be very competitive as the top nine teams are only separated by nine strokes.
