OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss dropped the series opener 8-0 to No. 23 LSU on Friday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The Rebels will host "Kids Take Over The Ballpark Day" tomorrow at 1 p.m. to support the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

LSU jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the second after the Tigers loaded the bases with one out on an Ole Miss error, a single and a walk. Rebel starting pitcher Kendall Bruning struck out Jacee Blades looking, but hit Simone Heyward with her first offering to give the Tigers their first run of the game.

The Tigers extended their lead to 3-0 in the third with back-to-back RBI singles from first baseman Anissa Young and left fielder Ashley Langoni.

Ole Miss loaded the bases with one down in the bottom of the fourth, but LSU starting pitcher Brittany Mack got Amanda Hutcheson to ground into a fielder's choice and struck out catcher Rachel Torres to end the threat.

LSU added four more runs in the sixth aided by three Ole Miss errors in the frame. The Tigers added their final run in the seventh on a bases loaded hit by pitch.

Bruning took the loss for the Rebels after giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits in 2.1 innings. Lindsey Perry entered in relief in the third and pitched 4.1 innings. She allowed five runs, just two earned, on four hits. Brittany Barnhill pitched the final 0.1 inning.

The Rebels and the Tigers will continue their three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. Ole Miss will also host "Kids Take Over The Ballpark Day" at Saturday's game to support the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis. Children aged 5-12 will fill a variety of jobs at the ballpark and donations for the children of Le Bonheur aged infant to adolescent will be accepted.
