MADISON, Miss. - Ole Miss senior Jonathan Randolph closed out his last home tournament in style, carding a 5-under 67 to earn a tie for fifth at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate here Tuesday at Reunion Golf and Country Club. The Brandon, Miss., native was one of three players to post the low round of the tournament.

Randolph shot a 74 in the first round. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after severe storms interrupted the second round on Monday. When play was suspended in the second round due to severe storms, Randolph was even through nine. He came back on the course Tuesday morning and birdied three of his first four holes to get to 3-under and then birdied 17 and 18 for the final 67.

"It was special," said Randolph, of his final collegiate round right near his hometown. "Getting it shortened to 36 [holes] was tough, because I was just starting to play better. Knowing it was my last regular season tournament [close to my hometown] is pretty special. My freshman year I birdied the first hole and played really well. It was cool to get to finish up here on a good note."

Randolph, who earned his 15th career top-five and 21st career top-10 finish, has been on the cusp of winning a few times this spring, including his 3rd place showing at the Hootie at Bulls Bay two weeks ago.

"I've been close to winning some this semester, but I haven't been able to capitalize," said the first team All-American. "I am definitely feeling a lot better about my chances each time, because I keep getting better. I just have to start off better and keep it going. As a team, if we do the same thing, anything can happen."

The Rebels shot a final round 289 and finished fifth in the 15-team field. Junior Joe David carded a 72-74--146 to tie for 17th. Billy Brozovich posted a 73, Zach Primavera had a 75, and Chad Bounds turned in a 79 to finish out the Rebel scoring.

"When we got out of the van today, Jonathan Randolph was obviously ready to play," head coach Ernest Ross said. "He shot 5-under on the nine holes he played today and finished with a great tournament. The rest of the team struggled a little bit. Our short games just weren't what they need to be. We know what we need to work on for the next tournament."

South Alabama was the only team to finish under par, firing a 285-286--571 to take the team title. Southern Mississippi claimed second with a 290-287--577. First round leader Southeastern Louisiana carded a final round 294 for a 580 total and third, while UCF finished fourth at 581. Phillip Westermann's 68-70--138 tied for the second lowest 36-hole score and earned him medalist honors. He finished one shot better than South Alabama's Lane Hulse, who had a 139.

Ole Miss will now spend the next week and a half preparing for the SEC Championship April 15-17 at St. Simon's Island, Ga. The Rebels finished second at last year's championship, while Randolph captured third.

"Experience over there is a big plus. We have some guys that have good vibes about that place. I think we'll play well there," Ross said. "We still have some areas of our game that we need to work on, but we've got a little time before then. We'll go to work."
