OXFORD, Miss. - Members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team will begin play in the NCAA Individual Championships Wednesday at the Taube Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif.

Singles competition gets underway Wednesday, and Ole Miss is represented by All-American Marcel Thiemann and senior Tucker Vorster. Thiemann will face a familiar opponent in the first round in UC Irvine's Chris Kearney, at 12 p.m. CT. Vorster will meet Virginia Tech junior, Luka Somen, at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Thiemann is making his second appearance in the singles championship where he advanced to the quarterfinals last year on his way to becoming the 25th All-American in the history of the program. Currently ranked No. 37 in the nation, Thiemann earned All-SEC first team honors for the second year in a row and was named the ITA Southern Region Player to Watch.

In their previous meeting two weeks ago, Kearney won the first set against Thiemann, but Thiemann led the second 5-4 before the Rebels clinched the match.

Vorster is making his first ever appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship and is presently ranked No. 52 in the nation. He earned All-SEC second team honors for the second straight year and helped lead the Rebels to their 18th consecutive NCAA appearance.

Marcel will also team up with his brother, Chris Thiemann, in the 32-team doubles field, which begins on Thursday. The pair, ranked No. 10 nationally, will face Duke's Henrique Kuhna and Reid Carleton (5-8 seed) in the first round.
