Rebels Fall To No. 5 Alabama On Senior Day

OXFORD, Miss. - Despite collecting six hits and limiting the No. 5 Crimson Tide to just six hits, Ole Miss dropped the series finale to Alabama 10-1 on Senior Day at the Ole Miss Complex on Sunday.
Alabama scored three runs in the second inning aided by three walks and a hit by pitch. With the bases loaded, Ole Miss starting pitcher Lindsey Perry uncorked a wild pitch that plated the Tide's first run and catcher Rachel Torres' errant throw allowed another run to score. Center fielder Jennifer Fenton added a sac fly later in the frame for the Tide's final run. Alabama added two more runs in the third courtesy of a pair of bases-loaded walks to go up 5-0.
The Rebels struck back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by from designated player Kendall Bruning that cut the Tide lead to 5-1. Senior Brittany Barnhill paced Ole Miss at the plate picking up two hits and a run scored.
Alabama added two more runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Fenton and three more runs in the seventh highlighted by an RBI single from Fenton, who finished the game with four RBI.
Perry took the loss for Ole Miss after starting and allowing six runs, five earned, on just two hits and seven walks in 3.1 innings. Bruning entered in relief and pitched 3.2 innings. She gave up four runs on four hits and struck out one.
Ole Miss will serve as the home of the 2011 SEC Softball Tournament, which begins on Thursday in Oxford.
