OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team continued to bolster its future on and off the courts with the signing of British standout Joe Rogers, head coach Billy Chadwick announced Tuesday.

An accomplished player, Rogers won an ITF junior event in Dublin, Ireland and was a semifinalist at an ITF event in Cyprus. A quarterfinalist at the U-18 National Championships, Rogers has won four English junior titles and is a five-time Sussex County (State) Junior Singles Champion. Rogers has a career-high ranking of No. 7 in the UK U-18 rankings.

"Joe is an excellent tennis player as well as an excellent student," Chadwick said. "By coincidence, his father had attended the Faulkner Conference and had a very favorable opinion of Oxford and the University. This, along with our excellent program, definitely helped shape his decision to play tennis at Ole Miss."

For the past year, Rogers, who stands at 6 feet 5 ½ inches, has trained at the Barcelona Total Tennis Academy under former Spanish Davis Cup captain Jordi Vilaro and current captain Francis Roig.

Rogers is a native of Brighton, United Kingdom. His dad, Dr. David Rogers, played football at SMU and is head of Humanities at Kingston University, while his mom is a professor of English at the University of Sussex.

Rogers will begin his career with the Rebels this fall, joining Oxford native Zach Wilder, who signed last week.
