WEST POINT, Miss. - Ole Miss men's golfer Billy Brozovich carded a 31 on the back nine at Old Waverly Thursday for a total of 68 and the first round lead at the Mississippi State Amateur Championship.
The rising senior from Greenville, made back-to-back bogeys on 8 and 9 but birdied 10, 11 and 12 to get to 2-under. After three straight pars, he birdied 16 and 17 and hit it to eight feet on 18, but missed the birdie putt to settle for the 68 and a one shot lead over three players.
Brozovich will tee off the second round Friday at 8:20 a.m. from No. 10 tee. He plays again with teammate Chad Bounds of Meridian, who posted a 78 in the first round. Madison native Thomas Watkins carded a 75 and goes off at 8:50 a.m.
