OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team enjoyed another day of cool weather at practice Monday afternoon and had a practice full of hard work and focus.
"I thought we had our best work day today," head coach Houston Nutt said. "We started early and did a really good job of focusing and concentrating. The weather has been awesome again and I'm sure that has a lot to do with it but we put some miles on today and I'm really proud."
On the defensive side of the ball, Nutt was impressed with several players and their play Monday, highlighted by the physical play of defensive back Aaron Garbutt.
"I really thought Aaron Garbutt show up a lot today," Nutt said. "He is very physical and I'm proud of him. Wayne Dorsey is having an excellent camp as is Justin Smith, Bryon Bennett and Carlton Martin. They are all doing very, very well and I'm proud of them. We've just got to keep bringing everybody else along and keep getting better."
Nutt also discussed the quickness and speed of the cornerbacks.
"Cornerbacks Marcus Temple, Wesley Pendleton and Charles Sawyer have all got to stay healthy," Nutt said. "Those guys do a good job of playing the football and are very quick and fast. They have done a good job with coverage."
On the offensive side of the ball, Nutt said the offensive line was as physical as he'd seen them through this point in camp.
"Our offensive line was the most physical today that we've been," Nutt said. "We weren't very physical the other night. Aaron Morris made a huge jump he's very mature for his age and he's very physical. He was the most physical offensive lineman of all of the offensive lineman on Saturday so that's why he's in that spot right now.
Offensively, Tobias Singleton had an awesome day today - just outstanding," Nutt said. "I thought he caught the ball and ran extremely well. Seemed like he got his legs back a little, maybe it was the weather. But, he made some big plays for us today and I'm proud of him."
For the second consecutive day, freshman cornerback Senquez Golson did not practice with the squad. He is in Boston to meet with the Red Sox regarding their offer to sign a professional baseball contract. Nutt said the eighth-round pick plans to make his decision late Monday night.
Preseason drills continue for the Rebels Tuesday and practices are closed to the public.
Meet the Rebels Day is set for Saturday, Aug. 20 in the Indoor Practice Facility on campus. The event, which begins with lunch at noon, includes autograph opportunities with the football, soccer and volleyball teams, raffles for tickets and other prizes, shopping for official team gear and an open scrimmage in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
