NEWARK, Del. - A rare visit to the Northeast resulted in major success for the Ole Miss cross country teams on Saturday. The Rebel men and women swept the team titles, and Logan Waites won an individual crown for the women at the Delaware Invitational.

Waites, a senior, won her second straight race in as many tries this year with her 6K time of 21:08.03, as the Rebel women took the top six positions on the hilly and challenging course. With her performance, Waites shattered the 5-year-old course record by over 25 seconds.

Running against host school Delaware, George Mason, Seton Hall and the Delaware Track Club, Rebel junior Katie Breathitt took second place with a time of 21:19.00, which was the second-best performance in course history behind Waites. Junior Anne Threlkeld finished third (22:37.76) with the 22nd-best time in course history. Sophomore Kayleigh Skinner came in fourth (23:04.00), junior Kelsey Breathitt fifth (23:06.60) and junior Amy McCrory sixth (23:10.92).

Freshman McKenna Coughlin (23:53.42) came in 12th place, freshman Giana Leone in 17th (24:17.85) and sophomore Elise Luers 23rd (24:44.17) to round out the Rebels' competitors.

Kelsey Breathitt, a member of Ole Miss' soccer team, competed in her first career cross country meet.

It was the second straight team victory for the Ole Miss women, who opened the 2011 campaign with a win at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.

The Ole Miss men took first place ahead of George Mason, Delaware Track Club, St. Joseph's (Pa.) and Seton Hall. Senior Martin Kirui paced the Rebels in the 8K race with a third-place finish and a time of 25:29.22, which was the 11th-best men's time in course history. Sophomore Kipchirchir Kiptoo placed fifth (26:08.90), sophomore Loren Newsom came in seventh (26:19.97), sophomore Max Holman eighth (26:39.84) and junior Riley Young 11th (27:08.94).

Among collegiate runners only, Kirui was third, Kiptoo fourth, Newsom fifth, Holman sixth and Young ninth.

The next competition for Ole Miss is the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 1 in Louisville, Ky.
