LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior Katie Breathitt capped off a stellar cross country career on Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Louisville.

Representing Ole Miss as the first woman to ever compete at the NCAA Championships, Breathitt finished 62nd out of 253 runners. She finished the 6K course with a time of 20:28.8.

"I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to represent Ole Miss," Breathitt said. "I am especially grateful for my coaches and my teammates that helped me get to this point. It was a great experience."

Since switching to cross country from the soccer team in 2010, the Lexington, Ky., native has earned numerous honors for her performances, including All-Region and All-SEC accolades.

"I am tremendously proud of Katie Breathitt and the courage and pride that she competed with this afternoon," said first-year head coach Brian O'Neal. "For her to come into her first NCAA meet and be within 10 seconds of All-American status is tremendous. I am ecstatic for her. It's a great end to this cross country season for her and our women's program."

Earlier this season, Breathitt helped lead her team to a fourth-place result at the SEC Championships, which was the best finish in school history.

That concludes the 2012 cross country season, which was one of the best in the history of the women's program.
