BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Three members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team advanced to the final round of qualifying at the Brownsville Futures here Sunday.

Senior Marcel Thiemann has been impressive in his first two matches this weekend, dominating both opponents to advance to the final round. On Saturday, he downed Thomas Tomczak of the United States 6-2, 6-1 and then Sunday, he cruised past Dennis Uspensky, also of the U.S., 6-1, 6-1. He will face Mikhail Pecherkin of Russia in the final round Monday.

Junior Jonas Lutjen is the No. 2 seed in the qualifying draw, and therefore had a bye in the first round. Sunday, he defeated Ricardo David Mayagoitia of Mexico, 6-2, 6-4. He will face teammate William Kallberg in the final round.

Kallberg reached the final round with a 6-1, 7-6(4) win over Ruadhan De Bruges of Australia and a 6-3, 6-3 victory against American Damon Gillette.

All three are trying to join freshman Nik Scholtz in the main draw, which begins Tuesday.
