Rebel Offense Posts Big Day

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss offense pounded out 20 hits and scored 15 runs, as the Rebels split a doubleheader against Belmont and Murray State on Sunday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The Rebels (4-3) run-ruled Belmont 9-1 in five innings in the first game before dropping the second game 11-6 to Murray State.

Game One

Senior Kendall Bruning collected three hits, including her first career homerun, drove in three runs and picked up the complete-game victory in the circle, as the Rebels run-ruled Belmont 9-1 in five innings.

Ole Miss raced out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run double from Bruning and a two-run single from catcher Marina Parra. Bruning extended the Rebel lead in the third with a solo homer to center that put Ole Miss on top 5-0.

The Rebels tacked on four more runs in the fourth aided by four walks in the frame and a pair of RBI singles from Bruning and second baseman Corrine Doornberg.

Bruning (3-2) went the distance for the Rebels striking out five in five innings of work. She scattered five hits and allowed one run, while walking only two.

Bruning also paced Ole Miss at the dish with three hits, including her homerun, four RBI and two runs scored. Parra added a hit and two RBI, while Brittany Broome scored twice and got a hit.

Game Two

Ole Miss pounded out 12 hits, including three hits each from Kendall Bruning and freshman Dallas Hardin, but it wasn't enough as Murray State knocked off the Rebels 11-6 in game two on Sunday.

The Racers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning aided by three walks and two hit-by-pitches from Ole Miss starter Kelly Chandler. Ole Miss responded with five runs in the third inning to grab a lead 5-4, highlighted by an RBI single from Bruning and a bases-loaded walk of RT Cantillo.

Murray State answered back with four runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double to left by catcher Ellyn Troup to take an 8-4. The Racers tacked on three more runs in the sixth courtesy of a three-run double by leftfielder Megan Glosser. The Rebels added their final run in the seventh on a Londen Ladner fielder's choice that cut the Murray State lead to 11-6.

Bruning paced the Rebels to the plate once again with three hits and an RBI, while Hardin collected three singles, an RBI and scored once. Senior Cali Overbeck added two hits and a run scored and senior Corrine Doornberg singled twice and scored once.

Chandlers started for Ole Miss and allowed four runs, all earned, on three hits in 1.1 innings. She walked three and hit one batter. Erinn Jayjohn pitched two innings and gave up one run on three hits and struck out one. Bruning took the loss after allowing six runs, all earned, on six hits in 2.2 innings. Freshman Lauren Lindsey pitched the final inning and gave up no runs and two hits.

Next up, Ole Miss will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas for a tournament hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi beginning on Friday. The Rebels will face Texas-San Antonio, Texas Southern and the host Islanders.
