OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team is back on the road for the second tournament of the spring portion of the 2011-12 schedule, as the Rebels travel to Statesboro, Ga., to compete in the Chris Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern University.
The Rebels will battle 13 other teams, including three top-25 teams: Auburn (No. 2), North Florida (No. 15) and Florida (No. 24). SEC foes Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt will also take part in the tournament.
Ole Miss competed in the event last year, posting an 11th place finish.
Senior Joe David earned a top-20 finish in last year's tournament--one of 24 in his career. The Madison Tenn., native has enjoyed an excellent final season, leading the Rebels with a 71.29 stroke average. David has finished in the top five at three events this season, including third place finishes at the Mason Rudolph Championship and the David Toms Intercollegiate.
Fellow senior Billy Brozovich currently carries a 73.37 stroke average with a pair of top-20 finishes. Brozovich earned a career-best finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship, tying David for third place to help the Rebels to a season-best second place finish.
Joe Lewis has posted a solid freshman campaign with a 73.71 stroke average. Lewis picked up his first career top-20 finish in the fall, coming in ninth at the Mason Rudolph.
