OXFORD, Miss. - Lafayette County standout Corey Hollis has announced she will join the Ole Miss softball program beginning in the 2012-13 academic year.
The 2011 Oxford Eagle Player of the Year, Hollis led the Commodores with a .571 batting average, four home runs and 27 runs scored last season en route to district MVP honors. A two-time team captain, Hollis was named district offensive player of the year in 2010 and defensive player of the year in 2009 and 2010 and is a three-time all-area team selection.
"We are excited to have Corey join our squad for the next season," said Ole Miss head coach Windy Thees. "She is a very skilled catcher with a strong arm and great hands behind the plate. She also adds depth for us at third base and is a tremendous student and great athlete."
Hollis also plays for the Southaven Blue Angels club team and was a member of the Mississippi Senior All-Star Fastpich and the Adidas Futures teams. A multi-sport standout, she earned the Tri-Athlete award in 2009 and 2010 after lettering in softball, volleyball, cross country and power lifting, where she won a bronze medal at the state meet in 2011.
A standout in the classroom, Hollis is her graduating class salutatorian and boasts a 4.33 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society and BETA Club and has won several class awards. Hollis plans to major in mathematics or engineering and hopes to become a teacher.
