Rebels Travel To Sea Island For SEC Championship

OXFORD, Miss. - A tough SEC field awaits the Ole Miss men's golf team, as the Rebels travel to Sea Island, Ga., to compete in the SEC Championship April 20-22 at the Seaside Golf Club.
The SEC Championship will feature six of the nation's top-25 teams in Auburn (No. 2), Alabama (No. 7), Arkansas (No. 9), LSU (No. 19), Florida (No. 22) and Georgia (No. 25).
Georgia's Bryden Machpherson (No. 12), Auburn's Blayne Barber (No. 18) and Alabama's Justin Thomas (No. 21) are the highest-rated individual players from the conference.
In last year's event at Sea Island, Florida took home the league title, holding off Alabama by six strokes. The Gators' Andres Echavarria won medalist honors.
"Our entire team and coaches get really excited to compete at Sea Island, one of the premier golf venues in America," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "You get a special feeling just being there. Our team has not played to its potential this year, and we are preparing hard to play like I know we can. This course has some special challenges that we are working hard in practice to master."
Rated the No. 36 individual player in the nation, Joe David leads the Rebels with a 71.32 stroke average-good for fifth in the SEC. The senior has finished in the top-20 in all nine events this season, including three top-five finishes and five in the top-10. David took 14th place at last year's SEC Championship.
Freshman Blake Morris follows with a 73.32 average. Morris earned his first career top-10 back in March, taking seventh place at the Chris Schenkel Invitational.
Senior Billy Brozovich has picked up two top-20's this season, including a career-best third-place finish at the Mason Rudolph in the fall. He carries a 74.08 stroke average into the weekend.
Freshman Joe Lewis also holds a 74.08 average. Lewis had a career-best finish at the Mason Rudolph, earning ninth place.
Sophomore Tom Brown rounds out the lineup for the Rebels.
