OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach Windy Thees announced the signing of junior college standout Shelby Jo Fenter to a national letter of intent on Wednesday. Fenter will join the Rebels for the 2012-13 academic year.

One of the top pitchers in the junior college ranks, Fenter has thrown four no-hitters and two perfect games this season for Volunteer State Community College. She currently leads the NJCAA, averaging 2.14 strikeouts per inning totaling 272 strikeouts in just 127.1 innings this year. Fenter boasts a 21-1 record with a 0.88 ERA and has issued just 25 walks and only allowed 47 hits on the year. A star at the plate, she ranks fifth in the NJCAA with 73 RBI and is batting .472 with nine home runs this season.

"Shelby Jo is a true competitor," said Thees. "We are very excited she is joining the Ole Miss family. She has excellent command and is a strikeout pitcher that will help solidify our defense. The best thing about Shelby Jo is her work ethic both in the classroom and on the field."

Fenter transferred to Vol State after spending her freshman season at Arkansas Tech, where she earned first-team All Gulf South Conference honors after posting a 9-4 record with a 2.07 ERA and 129 strikeouts. She also batted .317 with six home runs and 23 RBI en route to second-team NCAA Division II All-South Region honors.

A graduate of West Memphis High School in West Memphis, Ark., Fenter earned Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year honors after she led the Blue Devils (16-7) to the Class 6A state quarterfinals her senior season, posting a 16-7 record and a 1.69 earned run average while recording 349 strikeouts and issuing just 36 walks. Fenter recorded three no-hitters and 12 shutouts, allowing only 59 hits in 154.2 innings. At the plate, the four-time all-state selection batted .551 with eight home runs, 14 doubles and 30 RBI, amassing a 1.188 slugging percentage.
