Yarbrough Named Louisville Slugger First Team All-American

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss junior second baseman Alex Yarbrough has been named a Louisville Slugger First Team All-America selection by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication announced on Thursday with the release of its annual All-America teams.
It is the eighth time in the last 10 seasons the Rebels have had a player named a First Team All-America selection as Yarbrough joins an elite group of players honored with selection to an All-America team that includes Stephen Head, Brian Pettway, Zack Cozart, Scott Bittle and Drew Pomeranz.
The second baseman was also named an All-SEC First Team selection earlier this week and named to the SEC All-Defensive team as well.
The announcement comes the day before Yarbrough and Ole Miss open play in the NCAA Tournament against TCU in a regional hosted by Texas A&M University. The Rebels and Horned Frogs will take the field for a 12:35 p.m. start on Friday.
Yarbrough has led the Rebel offense this season and his hitting at a .389 clip entering the NCAA Tournament and is second in the Southeastern Conference in batting average and hits this season. He ranks in the top 10 of six offensive categories in the SEC, including batting average, hits, slugging percentage, doubles, on base percentage and total bases.
A native of Allen, Texas, Yarbrough has also been one of the top defensive players in the nation this season. He has committed only two errors this season and fields at a .992 clip. The junior posted a stretch of 456.0 consecutive innings without an error between his two errors this season.
Friday's opening game of the NCAA Regional can watch the contest between Ole Miss and TCU on ESPN3.com or can catch the game audio online at www.OleMissSports.com. The game will be carried on the radio on any of the stations that are a part of the Ole Miss Baseball Network with the exception of 104.9 WBUV-FM out of Biloxi/Gulfport.
