BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Incoming Ole Miss men's golf freshman Forrest Gamble fired a six-under-par 65 on Wednesday to win the 67th Alabama State Junior Golf Championship at Mountain Brook Club in Birmingham.

Gamble, an 18-year old graduate of Vestavia High School, won the 16-18 year old division by one stroke over Vasili Kartos and Taylor Eyster. The event was shortened to one round after thunderstorms wiped out Thursday's second round.

"I am proud of Forrest," said Ole Miss men's golf head coach Ernest Ross. "He has had a fantastic summer. I know he will make an immediate impact on our program."

"It feels good to win, but I wish we could have played (the final round)," Gamble told BamaGolf.com after the victory. "It would have been really fun to play with Vasili and Taylor and battle it out on the course."

The Birmingham, Ala., native also tied for 6th at the Southern Junior in Pinehurst, N.C., with a three round total of 221 in June and posted a tie for 5th at the Western Junior in Village of Golf, Fla., with a four round total of 4-under par 284 earlier this summer. Both of these fields are among the strongest in junior golf.
