BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss senior Katie Breathitt has been named Southeastern Conference Women's Runner of the Week after claiming the Commodore Classic individual title on Saturday. The SEC announced its weekly cross country award winners on Tuesday.

In her first meet of the season, Breathitt captured her first career individual cross country victory with a time of 21:03.23 to beat out 215 other runners in the 6K race. She now owns the top 6K time in the SEC this year.

The Lexington, Ky., native led the Ole Miss women to a runner-up finish in Nashville, ahead of SEC rivals Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, LSU and Tennessee.

It is Breathitt's first career SEC weekly honor and the first for an Ole Miss cross country runner since Logan Waites on October 4 of last year.

The Rebel cross country teams will be back in action on Sept. 29 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
