OXFORD, Miss. - In January of this year, the Ole Miss cheerleaders placed first in the World University Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Fla., and now, they get to perform across the pond at the 2012 European Cheerleading Championships. The European Championships will take place Nov. 3 in Paris.
Ole Miss is the only team from the United States that will be represented at the European Championships.
A group of 18 team members, spirit coordinator Amanda Hoppert and cheer coach Trey Griffin will travel to Paris.
"This is a great opportunity for our athletes to go to Europe and represent the United States and Ole Miss," said Hoppert. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most of these student-athletes, and many of them had to get their first passport."
The team has already begun preparing for the trip to Paris, where they will showcase a slightly different version of their nationals' routine.
The team is seeking donations to help defray the cost of the trip. Rebel supporters can donate by going to www.olemissspiritsquads.com.
