Quinn Leads Lady Rebels To Fifth Place In Virginia

Sept. 28, 2013

EARLYSVILLE, Va. - The Ole Miss women led the Rebels in a successful weekend with a fifth-place finish at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational.

This course was more difficult and the talent level was higher than the two first meets of the year.

"Both the men and women showed improvement this week," Rebel head coach Brian O'Neal said.

The Rebel women finished fifth overall, ahead of the other SEC team, Auburn that participated in the meet.

The ladies were led by freshman Michaela Quinn, who posted an impressive seventh-place overall finish in her college debut. She ran the 5K in 17:11.9.

Junior Haley Cutright finished second on the squad with a 15th-place finish and a time of 17:29.4. Cutright's time this year would have been good enough to win the meet in 2012.

The men finished 12th in the meet and were led for the second meet in a row by sophomore Ian Carter with a 50th-place finish in the 8K with a time of 24:54.4. Carter ran under 25 minutes for the first time in his career.

"Our goal each weekend is to show improvement week to week," O'Neal said. "That has to continue to be competitive at SEC's."

Improvement has definitely happened for the Rebels across the board. The men ran an average time of 26:24.15 in their last meet and ran an average time of 25:33.24 this week on a more difficult course.

The Rebels' next meet will be a big one as they head to the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., October 19.
