BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After a strong college debut at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Saturday, Ole Miss' Karlie Garcia was named Southeastern Conference Cross Country Women's Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.

Garcia, a native of Roseville, Calif., posted a third-place individual finish that helped the Ole Miss women finish second as a team in the season-opening meet.

Garcia's time of 17:32.72 is the top women's 5K time in the SEC this season. She placed third out of 157 total participants while leading an all-freshman contingent of Rebel runners in Memphis.

One of the Rebels' large and talented group of freshmen to join the track & field and cross country program, Garcia was a two-time Foot Locker Cross Country All-American in high school.
