OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss continued to add to the recruiting class for the 2015-16 academic year with the signing of Texas outfielder Kennedy Cline, head coach Mike Smith announced on Thursday.
Cline (Lumberton, Texas) is the fourth announced member of the recruiting class, joining Kylan Becker (Miami, Florida), Megan Harris (Whitehouse, Texas) and Ashton Hampton (Decatur, Mississippi) in the group that will be eligible to compete with the Rebels in the 2015-16 academic year.
"Kennedy is an outfielder who brings another big bat to our lineup," Smith said. "She's a good sized athlete who has a strong arm and will hit for power and average. She has a great personality and really loves playing the game of softball. She will be the first one to the field every day and the last one to leave. She's that x-factor type player every coach wants in their program."
Cline comes to the Rebels from Lumberton High School where she is a four-year letter winner under head coach Lauren Parker Sanders. At Lumberton, the outfielder was named an All-District second team selection for District 22 in Class 5A in the 2012-13 academic year before earning first team All-District honors in the 2013-14 academic year.
The Texas native also competed in soccer at Lumberton High School, lettering two years and earning All-District honors both seasons with the team.
She has competed in travel ball with the GT Shockers Gold in softball, serving as captain of her team, and also competed with the Extreme Select team in soccer. She helped the Shockers to a runner-up finish at the Young Guns 14U Select Softball USFA World Series. She also helped Extreme Select claim the U15 state championship.
Cline is active in her school and community, being selected for membership in the National Honor Society and a recipient of the Lumberton High School Outstanding Principle of Human Services Award. She is a member of several student organizations; including partnering with her twin brother, Dakota, on the school's fishing team. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Key Club, Future Farmers of America, Family Community Career Leaders of America and the Health Occupation Students of America.
She follows in the footsteps of her mother who was a middle infielder at McNeese State University.
