"This is one of the premier meets you'll find," said Ole Miss head coach Brian O'Neal. "The SEC has a lot of world leaders and top-five athletes in the world. The NCAA's elite are within this conference. What makes competing in this league such fun is that you get a chance to stack up against the best. As a competitor, that's all you ever want is to match up your best against someone else's best and not back down. We know this is the biggest challenge we'll face all season long. We expect our young men and young women to compete with pride."
The Rebel men are led by veterans Sam Kendricks and Ricky Robertson, with a big boost from newcomers Phillip Young, Sean Tobin, Jalen Miller, Robert Domanic, Nathan Loe and others.
Kendricks is the reigning NCAA outdoor champion and SEC indoor champion in the pole vault and currently ranks No. 1 in the NCAA and tied for second in the world with his clearance of 18-8.25 at the Texas Relays.
Robertson, a seven-time All-American, has won six SEC high jump titles (four indoor, two outdoor) in his illustrious career. He currently ranks second in the NCAA and 10th in the world with his mark of 7-6 at the Texas Relays.
Young, a transfer from Florida State, is tied for fourth nationally in the triple jump with a leap of 52-10.25 at the LSU Invitaitonal.
The Ole Miss women are led by senior Mary Ashton Nall and junior Kierra White, who both rank top 40 nationally in their events (heptathlon and long jump, respectively).
Outdoor school records have been broken this season by Tobin in the men's 1,500 meters (3:42.07), Loe in the men's hammer throw (210-3) and Mary Alex England in the women's 10,000 meters (34:48.66).
