Softball Wraps Up Third Week of Practice
10/19/2015 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss.- The Ole Miss softball team finished up another week of fall practice last week, getting wins over both Blue Mountain College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
It was both solid hitting and pitching depth that stuck out for head coach Mike Smith's squad, as the squad begins to find its identity as practice continues.
Fans were able to see a couple of innings of work in the circle from returners Madi Osias and Kayla Landwehrmier between the two games last week. Elisha Jahnke and Alyssa Clayton, who will add depth to that position, also saw action.
"We had good energy and were running stuff out hard," Smith said. "We had great pitching in the circle, and that's an area where we've really been doing well (this fall)."
"In our first fall game against Mississippi State we walked 13 or 14 hitters, and I think we've only walked five hitters in our last five games since then, so I feel like that's going well," Smith added.
Smith also talked about game situations and improving before the end of fall practice.
"We could get a little better at understanding certain situations," Smith said. "That will come from playing these games, it's hard to teach those things without playing actual games. It will come, we have a number of weeks before our opening game in Hawaii."
The Rebels have one more game scheduled for Nov. 6 against the Memphis Tigers to finish out the fall schedule. First pitch is set for 5:00 at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
