OXFORD, Miss. â€" Ole Miss volleyball head coach Steven McRoberts announced Austin, Texas native Leah Mulkey as the third member of the program's 2016 class, Friday.
An outside hitter, Mulkey finished her high school career with more than 1,000 kills and helped lead Lake Travis High School to three playoff appearances, including the regional quarterfinals this year. After earning District 14-6A Co-MVP Outside Hitter honors in 2014, Mulkey was named an Austin American Statesman Player to Watch in 2015.
"Leah's high school team had the best season that they've had in years," said McRoberts. "She's going to come in right away and compete on the left pin for us. Good volleyball IQ, somebody that we know that can be a terminator. We've known Leah a long time. I think she's going to get stronger and be a great SEC outside hitter."
An excellent student, Mulkey earned Academic All District honors in 2014, was the recipient of the Hutton Scholarship Award, and has been a member of the National Honors Society since 2013.
Mulkey is also very involved in community service, as a member of the National Charity League since 2013. She serves as a leader and mentor to 50 fifth grade girls once a week as part of a Lake Travis Independent School District program.
