The fifth member of the Ole Miss Volleyball 2016 class is North Dakota standout Emily Stroup, head coach Steven McRoberts announced Sunday, prior to the Rebels' nationally-televised match against LSU.
A five-year varsity starter and three-year varsity captain, Stroup (Fargo, N.D.) amassed more than 2,000 kills and 1,000 assists during her career at Fargo South High School.
"Emily is coming in with over 2,000 kills at the high school level," said McRoberts. "She's going to be a terminator for us and at the SEC level. I'm excited to get her in. She will also be somebody that our fans are going to be excited about as a freshman. I think Emily can come in and compete and play right away."
Stroup led her team to the North Dakota State Tournament in 2013 and 2014 and earned All-Tournament Team honors and first team All-State honors both years. She set a North Dakota State Tournament record with 74 kills in the 2013 tournament.
As a member of the Summit Volleyball Club Team, Stroup helped them win the USA Women's Junior A National Championship this year. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the USA HP Championships.
Off the court, Stroup is a member of the National Honor Society and holds a 3.97 grade point average.
