Box Score

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Rebels' offense was in gear and the pitching came up solid in the circle as Ole Miss (28-19) picked up a doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State (2-25) on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Lady Braves by scores of 18-3 and 17-0.

Ole Miss hit three home runs in the first game of the afternoon and then used heads up base running and plate patience in game two to pick up the wins.

"We played as well as we could play tonight," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Smith. "We swung the bats well. We didn't base run as well as we should have, but sometimes that happens when you get in a lull and the atmosphere wasn't the same as an SEC weekend. We improved on that in game two and waited for good pitches. We're going to see something totally different this weekend and we have to change our mindset for going back into the weekend."

The Rebels will return to action on Friday evening, kicking off a three-game series against South Carolina at 6 p.m. The series will close the home portion of the season for Ole Miss who will then play the final week of the regular season with four contests on the road.

OLE MISS 18, ALCORN STATE 3 -- GAME 1 (5 Innings)

Ole Miss got three home runs, including grand slams from Allison Brown and Lauren Lindsey, to power to an 18-3 win over the Lady Braves in the first game of the doubleheader.

Lindsey (6-5) picked up the win in relief, working 2.2 innings and allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts against Alcorn. She relieved Osias who pitched 2.0 innings in the start and allowed one hit with two strikeouts.

Ole Miss put together a four-run first inning to jump out to the early lead, using a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Allison Brown and a two-RBI triple from Bri Payne as a part of the opening frame scoring.

The Rebels then plated eight runs in the second inning, using the grand slam from Brown to get things started after three consecutive walks opened the frame. Courtney Syrett also hit a two-run home run in the inning to record her first home run of the season on the way to the eight-run inning.

A sac fly from Paige McKinney and a RBI single from Grayce Majam added two runs in the third before Lindsey hit her grand slam in the fourth inning to cap the scoring for the Rebels in the win.

Alcorn State pushed three runs home in the top of the fourth, capitalizing on the first three batters reaching base to get on the board.

OLE MISS 17, ALCORN STATE 0 -- GAME 2 (5 Innings)

Ole Miss again used a pair of big innings to push out to the run-rule win over the Lady Braves in game two of the doubleheader, plating nine runs in the second and seven runs in the third to claim the big lead.

Kayla Landwehrmier (4-1) picked up the win as she threw a complete-game shutout and allowed two hits with five strikeouts through her 5.0 innings of work.

Ole Miss displayed patience at the plate, drawing four walks and three hit batters in the second inning on the way to the nine-run inning and the early lead.

The Rebels would then continue that patience at the plate in the third inning, combining two walks and a hit batter with three hits to push the seven runs home. Majam delivered the final blow of the inning with a two-RBI double to cap the inning for Ole Miss.

An RBI single up the middle from Madi Osias in the fourth inning pushed the final run of the game home for the Rebels as Ole Miss picked up the wins in the twin bill.
