Where Are They Now: Danetra Forrest
This summer the Ole Miss women's basketball team will be taking a look at some of the noticeable names from seasons past and seeing what they're up to now. Today we'll check in on one of Ole Miss' great players and current head coach at Coahoma Community College, Danetra Forrest.
There are Ole Miss women's basketball alumni everywhere and one has to look no further than Coahoma Community College to see two former Rebels succeeding. Head coach Danetra Forrest (2005-08) and her assistant Shawn Goff (2006-09) have are entering their second season at Coahoma and the sky is the limit.
Teammates during one of the most successful eras in Ole Miss women's basketball, Forrest helped the Rebels to the Elite Eight in 2006-07 and took over at Coahoma for the 2014-15 season. Prior to being named the head coach at Coahoma, Forrest spend two seasons as an assistant at Jones County Community College where she helped the Lady Bobcats to a 19-8 record and MACJC Championship as an assistant coach.
As a player, Forrest averaged 5.5 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game in 93 appearances in a Rebel uniform, while shooting 46 percent from the floor.
The Louisville, Mississippi, native was a Clarion-Ledger Mississippi High School Player of the Year after following her senior season and, a little known fact, she and Rebel teammates Armintie Price and Carla Bartee formed a singing group, The Anointed Voices, that performed gospel music around Oxford during their playing days.
In her first season as a head coach, Forrest had a player earn All-MACJC North first-team honors in Erica Collins, who also earned Player of the Week honor during the season. Forrest also served as head coach of the MACJC North Women's All-Star team.
