Rebels Fall to No. 23 Kentucky on the Road

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sophomore right side Kathryn Cather returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing the previous three matches with a concussion, and tallied 13 kills on a .346 clip, but No. 23 Kentucky handed the Rebels a 3-0 (20-25, 27-29, 19-25) loss at Memorial Coliseum.
Cather made her presence known in set one with four kills on a .572 clip to lead the Rebels, but Kentucky hit .317 led by freshman Leah Edmond's six kills on a .500 clip to pace the Wildcats to a 25-20 win.
Ole Miss battled back gained a 15-11 lead in the second set. However, the Wildcats went on an 11-1 run to regain the lead, 22-16. The Rebels would not go away quietly though, mounting a 6-0 run to erase the deficit. Kentucky gained its first set point 24-23, but Kate Gibson answered with one of her 12 kills to tie it. Kentucky would gain another set point, but Gibson stepped up again and tied it at 25-25 and then a Kentucky attack error gave the Rebels their first set point at 26-25. Unfortunately, a service error tied it up again at 26. The Wildcats gained another set point, but Cather slammed home her ninth kill of the match to tie it again at 27. Back-to-back kills from UK's Edmond and Kaz Brown handed the Wildcats the set 29-27 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Kentucky came out of the break and took a 6-2 lead early in set three. Despite hitting .375 in set three, the Rebels never got closer than three the rest of the way, as the Wildcats hit .621 and won it 25-19 and the match 3-0.

• The Rebels fell to 12-8 overall and 1-6 in the SEC, while Kentucky moved to 15-4 and 8-0 in the SEC.
• Sophomore right side Kathryn Cather returned to the court after missing the last three matches with a concussion. She finished with a team-high 13 kills and hit .346.
• Junior outside hitter Kate Gibson tallied 12 kills. She has now recorded double-digit kills in all but one match this season. Gibson missed a double-double by one dig, tallying nine.
• Junior outside hitter Lexi Thompson tallied 8 kills and a team-high 12 digs.
• Senior setter Aubrey Edie passed out 37 assists.
