OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team opens the 2016 spring season next Monday under head coach Chris Malloy. The Rebels begin with the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama hosted by South Alabama.

The two-day, three-round tournament will take place at the par-72, 7160-yard Magnolia Grove Golf Club.

"It's imperative that we get out to a good start this spring, and it starts at South Alabama's tournament." said Malloy. "I think it will be an awesome opportunity to go out there and win. We know the course very well, for the most part. It's important to start off well in your first event and get some confidence."

The men's golf team will then head to the tip of the Baja California peninsula February 28th to compete in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, where they will face a strong field that includes No. 2 Wake Forrest, No. 3 Florida State, No. 16 Georgia, No. 17 Vanderbilt, No. 20 Washington, No. 21 California, No. 25 LSU, No. 31 South Florida, No. 34 Arkansas, No. 39 Baylor, No. 50 Houston, Oregon State and Rice.

"The Querencia Cabo Collegiate will have the strongest field we will see this spring, and may have the strongest field of the entire season," said Malloy. "It is important that we go down there focused and ready to compete."

Following their trip to Mexico, the Rebels compete in back-to-back tournaments in the sunshine state, beginning with the Seminole Intercollegiate at Tallahassee, Florida March 11-13. They will then travel to Boca Raton, Florida for the FAU Intercollegiate March 25-27.

On April 4-5, the Rebels compete in their closest tournament to home at West Point, Mississippi for the Old Waverly Intercollegiate. Junior Ben Wolcott posted his first career top-five finish at Old Waverly last year as the Rebels took home third.

Wolcott will be joined by a squad mixed with veteran upper-classmen and young talent. Junior Noah West leads the team in stroke average this season with a score of 73.67. West has competed in 65 rounds in his career as a Rebel.

Freshman Braden Thornberry posted a top-10 finish at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate. His second round score of 67 was the team's lowest score of 18 last fall. The First-Team Rolex Junior All-American won the Patriot All-America Invitational over the winter break.

Senior Forrest Gamble posted a top-25 finish at the Shoal Creek Invitational in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama last September. Gamble led the team at last year's SEC Champions tournament, finishing tied for 11th with a score of 71-66-71--208. Senior Connor Davis or Freshman Beau Briggs will round out the 5th spot for the Rebels.

The Rebel's final tournament of the regular season will be at Sea Island, Georgia for the SEC Championships April 17-19. The NCAA Regionals are held May 5-7, followed by the NCAA Championships at Eugene, Oregon May 20-25.
