In the fifth of a 10-part series introducing the Ole Miss softball newcomers for the 2017 season, Friday's profile features first baseman/third baseman Gabby Alvarez.

What made you choose Ole Miss?
I chose Ole Miss because of its amazing traditions and the school spirit this University has. When you step on campus it has a nice home feel to it, and everyone is so nice and willing to help you.

What do you like most about Ole Miss and Oxford?
What I love the most about Ole Miss is the campus itself. The buildings are so beautiful and the campus gives you that welcoming feel to it. Also, I love that Oxford is a great college town, everyone roots for Ole Miss and has so much love and pride in the Rebels.

What is your favorite part about being an athlete at Ole Miss?
Being with my team, and being able to play with amazing athletes. Also, just getting the opportunity to bond with them and get to know people from all around is awesome.

What is your favorite Ole Miss tradition?
My favorite tradition has to be the football tailgating before every home game. Every fan and student comes out to enjoy the game and be with each other's company. There's also the Walk of Champions during the tailgating and that's always something cool to see.

Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
Two things that I will always have done is have my hair braided and my nails will always be painted.
