OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss volleyball winds down the season with its final road trip, traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee to face the Lady Vols Friday and then moving on to Lexington, Kentucky to face the No. 6-ranked Wildcats Sunday.
How to Watch…
Friday's match at Tennessee will be on the SECN+ at 6 p.m. CT, while Sunday's match at Kentucky will be nationally televised on the SEC Network at 1 p.m. CT.
Scouting Tennessee…
Tennessee enters Friday's match at 11-13 overall, 4-11 in the SEC. They are coming off a 3-2 loss at Alabama last Sunday. Two of Tennessee's four league wins have come against two of the top four teams in the SEC standings in Missouri (3-1) and LSU (3-0). The Lady Vols are led by junior middle blocker Erica Treiber, who averages 2.23 kills per set on a .315 clip.
Rebels vs. Lady Vols…
Tennessee leads the all-time series 42-10. The two teams have split the past four meetings with the Rebels winning twice at home and the Lady Vols winning in Knoxville.
Last meeting…
In their last meeting (Nov. 11, 2016 in Oxford), Ole Miss swept Tennessee 3-0 in front of a single-match attendance record of 3,775 at The Pavilion at Ole Miss. The Rebels won the first set 25-19 and the edged the Lady Vols in the final two sets 25-23 and 26-24 behind a strong hitting percentage of .319. Senior Lexi Thompson recorded a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs and fellow senior Kate Gibson also posted a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs.
Tennessee Rebels…
The Rebels have two players from Tennessee on their roster. Freshman setter Lauren Bars hails from Nashville and Harpeth Hall High School. Bars has played in all 111 sets for the Rebels and owns 604 assists. Junior middle blocker Delaney Gallagher is also from Nashville and Hume-Fogg High School. She transferred from Middle Tennessee State. Gallagher has seen action in 28 sets this season with 20 blocks.
Scouting Kentucky…
Kentucky is tied atop the SEC standings with a 13-1 record and ranked No. 6 in the nation with a 22-3 overall record. They are coming off a 3-0 win at Auburn last Sunday. The Wildcats are led by sophomore Leah Edmond, who is averaging 4.44 kills per set and hitting .315. She is also averaging 0.34 service aces per set. Freshman setter Madison Lilley averages 11.90 assists per set helping the Wildcats rank first in the SEC in hitting percentage (.314), kills per set (14.87 and assists per set (13.51).
Rebels vs. Wildcats…
Kentucky leads the series 42-11 and has won 11 straight. The Rebels' last win (3-0) in the series came in Lexington in 2010.
Last Meeting…
Ole Miss grabbed the first set off Kentucky 28-26 in their last meeting (Nov. 13, 2016) in Oxford, but the Wildcats came back and won the next three sets 25-16, 25-22 and 25-15 for a 3-1 victory. Senior Lexi Thompson notched a team-high 16 kills, senior Kate Gibson added 9 kills and 16 digs and junior Caroline Adams recorded 18 digs, to lead the Rebels.
Last time out…
Coming into this season, Ole Miss had never beaten Texas A&M. Now, they have won two in a row against the Aggies after a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20) win Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center. Sophomore Emily Stroup posted her eighth double-double with a match-high 19 kills and 15 digs to lead the Rebels. Senior Kate Gibson posted her SEC-leading 18th double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs.
