Split Weekend for Ole Miss Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. -
It's a split weekend for the Ole Miss volleyball team, as they travel to Athens, Georgia Friday for their second of two matches against the Bulldogs and then return home to host Texas A&M Sunday.

The Rebels and Bulldogs of Georgia will square off at 5 p.m. CT from the Ramsey Center. The match can be seen on the WatchESPN app. Sunday's match with Texas A&M is nationally-televised on the SEC Network with first serve set for 2 p.m.

Promotions…
Sunday is Dads and Daughters Day. One lucky fan will have a chance to win two free tickets and sideline passes to the Nov. 18 football game against Texas A&M.

Scouting Georgia…
Georgia downed Alabama 3-0 last weekend to improve to 17-9 overall and 7-6 in the SEC. The Bulldogs have won five of their last six with four of those coming in straight sets. T'ara Ceasar, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, leads the team with an average of 4.13 kills per set. Setter Meghan Donovan was named SEC Setter of the Week. She averages 10.88 assists per set and hits .360.

Rebels vs. Bulldogs…
While Georgia still leads the overall series 40-19, Ole Miss has won five straight, including a 3-2 victory in Oxford on Oct. 1. The last time the two teams met in Athens (2016), the Rebels won 3-1.

Last meeting…
Ole Miss and Georgia battled it out in the first meeting this year with the Rebels taking a 3-2 win in Oxford. Georgia claimed a close first set 25-22, but the Rebels bounced back to take the second 26-24 and then the third 25-17. The Rebels had a chance to close it out in four, leading 17-12 at one point, but the Bulldogs went on a 13-5 run to steal it 25-22 and tie the match at 2-2. Seniors Kate Gibson and Lexi Thompson and sophomore Emily Stroup combined for 10 kills in the fifth set as the Rebels won it 15-12.

Scouting Texas A&M…
After losing to Arkansas in five last weekend, Texas A&M comes into the weekend 7-13 overall and 4-9 in the SEC. Against the Razorbacks, A&M posted a season high in both blocks and aces. The Aggies are led by Hollann Hans, who averages 3.45 kills per set and 0.39 service aces per set.

Rebels vs. Aggies…
Ole Miss earned their first ever win against Texas A&M in program history, 3-1, earlier this year in College Station, Texas.

Last Meeting…
Behind a double-double from sophomore Emily Stroup and a solid match from Texas native Nayo Warnell, Ole Miss earned their first ever win (3-1) against Texas A&M Oct. 22 at Reed Arena. The Rebels won 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16. Stroup posted 13 kills and a career-high 22 digs, while Warnell added 12 kills on a .474 attack percentage and 6 blocks.

Rebels-Aggies Connections…
Assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Tori Mellinger played for Texas A&M from 2009-12 and finished her career with 1,480 digs, the second most in school history and most in the rally-scoring era. Her senior year, Mellinger helped lead the team to a 25-6 record, including a 16-4 mark in SEC play and an appearance in the NCAA second round.

A perfect 100…
Ole Miss earned a perfect 100 graduation success rate for the seventh consecutive year it was announced Wednesday. The Rebels are one of six SEC schools to receive a perfect 100 GSR.

Three with 300 Kills…
Ole Miss is the only school in the SEC to boast three players with at least 300 kills. Senior Kate Gibson owns a team-leading 318 kills, sophomore Emily Stroup is second with 315 and senior Lexi Thompson has 308.
