4/20/2017 | Women's Golf, Blog

Asthe Ole Miss women's golf team tees it up this weekend at the 2017 SECChampionships at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham,OleMissSports.com tagged along to record some of the behind-the-scenes actionand each day will bring five observations from the round.

Round One - Friday April 21

Marti With An Impressive Back Nine

Sophomore Martina Flori (MontecatiniTerme, Italy) had a bit of a coming out party at the SECChampionship in 2016, shooting a then career-best. Flash forward a year and shestill really enjoys Greystone Golf and Country Club. The Italian native shot aneven par 72 but her back nine was something to talk about. She tallied fourstraight birdies to open, a double bogey and a bogey, a par and closed theround with a birdie. In total she posted six birdies on the back nine and evenwith a double bogey and a bogey was 2-under on the back nine! #Impressive

What's In YOUR Bag

18 holes isquite a bit of golf for a day and OleMissSports.com imagined that the Ole Misswomen's golf team had some things in their golf bags that they couldn't dowithout. So we asked the Rebels:

"What's one thing in your golfbag that's not a club that you couldn't play a round of golf without?

Madisen Bentley - Food and Water (Keeping it simple and justthe necessities)

Maria Toennessen - Pink marker (The Norwegian likes pink anduses it to mark her ball)

Katy Harris - Range Finder (No explanation needed)

Martina Flori - Her secret lucky charm (We have no ideawhat it is since it's a secret but it's ALWAYS in her bag)

And the bestanswer of the day came from rookie, Pi Hermansson and it's in the form of aquote

Pi- "I have a grocery store on the right side of the my bag and a pharmacy on theleft side"

Pi With A Good Outing In First SECChampionship

For thesixth straight year, Ole Miss has had a "rookie" in the starting five at theSEC Championship as Pi-Lillebi Hermansson playedNo. 2 for the Rebels today.  The Djursholm,Sweden native fired an opening round 3-over par 75 inher first round at Greystone Country Club. Her 75 ties senior Maria Toennessenfor the second-lowest first round in the SEC Championship for an Ole Missfreshman in the last six seasons.

New Format For 2017

For the 2017 SEC Championships the Rebels played in twosomes instead ofthreesomes. The SEC coaches decided that this would increase the pace of playon the course. The Rebels teed off at 8 am and played with LSU on the openingday of play. Additionally, everyone teed off from hole No. 1 instead of acombination of hole No. 1 and No. 10 and will do so for the entirety of thechampionship.

Day One Outfit

To kick offthe first day of tournament action, Ole Miss donned gray skirts and redrazorback tanks with the Ole Miss script on the front.

PSA- If you are planning to come out to Greystone to cheer the Rebels on make sureyou bring bug spray! The mosquitoes are swarming something FIERCE and they willdefinitely be all over our sweet Rebel fans! #HottyToddy
