Ole Miss Volleyball Shuts Out Chattanooga

OXFORD, Miss. -- After playing two five-setters on Friday, the Ole Miss volleyball team needed only three sets to beat Chattanooga Saturday afternoon in their third game of the Rebel Invitational at the Gillom Sports Center.
When these same two teams met a year ago in Chattanooga in the Scenic City Showdown, the Mocs rallied for a 3-2 win. This time, the Rebels never really gave them a chance to get back in the match.
Both the Rebels' middles Nayo Warnell and Bayleigh Scott got more involved in Saturday's match and the defense was stout, posting 64 digs an average of 21 digs per match. Senior Lexi Thompson recorded 6 digs per set and Caroline Adams had 5 digs per set to lead the defensive attack.
The Rebels broke open a 5-5 tie in set one with three straight kills and one of two service aces from sophomore Emily Stroup to lead 9-5. Chattanooga never got closer than two points as Ole Miss finished out the Mocs 25-18.
In set two, the Rebels hit .417 with only two errors on their way to a 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead. At 9-9, the Rebels used an 11-4 run to break it open and go up 20-14. They finished out the set 25-18.
Ole Miss raced out to a 10-5 lead in set three went on to win it 25-22 to improve to 2-1 on the young season

• Ole Miss took a 2-1 lead in the all-time series with Saturday's win.
• Junior Caroline Adams finished with a total of 15 digs/5.0 digs per set after a strong performance Friday night against North Dakota.
• Senior Lexi Thompson averaged 6.0 digs per set
• Freshman Lauren Bars recorded her first career double-double with 25 assists and 11 digs. She also had two kills.
• Sophomore Emily Stroup had another strong outing with 13 kills and only one error for a .323 attack percentage. She also added three assists, two service aces and five digs.
• Sophomore Nayo Warnell and Bayleigh Scott combined for 12 kills from the middle. Warnell had seven on a .333 clip and Scott finished with five on a .444 percentage.
