Sessom and Tyree to Attend SEC Hoops Meetings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A pair of Rebels will make their way to the Southeastern Conference offices this weekend. Shandricka Sessom, a senior on the women's basketball team, and Breein Tyree, a sophomore on the men's squad, will represent Ole Miss on the SEC Men's and Women's Basketball Leadership Councils.

The two councils consist of one male representative and one female representative from each of the SEC's 14 institutions. Among the agenda items for the group is a conversation with Commissioner Greg Sankey followed by a review of NCAA and SEC legislative items related to basketball. The 28 student-athletes will also have an opportunity to engage with men's and women's basketball officials on rules of the game and student-athlete/referee interaction.

Both Rebels are no strangers to serving on leadership committees. Over the summer, Sessom and Tyree spent the weekend at the conference offices for a joint meeting between the leadership councils and the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The duo demonstrates leadership on the court as well. Sessom enters her final season as a Rebel, playing in 92 games over the last three years. The Byhalia, Mississippi, native has averaged 11.1 points per game over her career, including 12.7 last season. As a freshman, Tyree emerged as the Rebels' starting point guard over the final stretch of the 2016-17 campaign. He exploded for a pair of 20-plus point performances in two contests, tallying a career-high 24 points in a win at Mississippi State. The Somerset, New Jersey, native ended up reaching double figures in 12 games.

Renee Brown, former WNBA Chief of Basketball Operations and Player Relations, will meet with the women's representatives to discuss careers in professional sports and WNBA preparedness, while the men's representatives will hear from former ESPN College Basketball analyst Andy Katz on the topics of careers in broadcasting and personal and professional image and branding.

The Men's Basketball Leadership Council and the Women's Basketball Leadership Council comprise two components of the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council. The third component is the Football Leadership Council. For the second consecutive year, the groups will gather in Atlanta the week of the SEC Football Championship Game in December for a career exploration tour.
