Soccer Lets Halftime Lead Slip in 3-1 Loss at LSU

Channing Foster’s Second Goal in as Many Games Not Enough for Ole Miss

BATON ROUGE, La. – Ole Miss held a 1-0 lead entering halftime Thursday night at LSU but was unable to hold onto the advantage, falling 3-1 to the Tigers at the LSU Soccer Stadium.

Channing Foster put the Rebels (9-6-1, 3-3-1 SEC) up at the break with a 12th-minute goal, taking down a CeCe Kizer cross in the box, shaking her defender and firing in a shot to the bottom corner with her left foot.

The Rebel lead didn't last long after halftime, with LSU (9-5-1, 3-3-1 SEC) knotting the score in the 47th-minute on a penalty kick. Making her first-career start, freshman Morgan McAslan got a foot on the shot up the middle but it wasn't enough to keep Alex Thomas' attempt out of the back of the net.

Lindsey Eaton pushed the Tigers ahead in the 75th-minute, collecting her own rebound off the right post and touching it past Ella Frischknecht's attempt to save it off the line. The Tigers doubled the lead less than two minutes later, scoring on an Abbey Newton header off of a corner kick.

With about eight minutes remaining, it appeared as though Foster had bagged a second goal to give the Rebels a chance at the match late. However, after a short conference between the referee and the linesman, Foster was ruled offside.

Just a few moments later, LSU was called for a hand ball in the box, allowing Kizer an attempt from the penalty spot. Kizer put a good strike on the ball but Caroline Brockmeier guessed correctly and stopped the attempt with a nice diving save to her left.

The Rebels will look to bounce back next Thursday, travelling to Lexington to take on Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network +.
