Rebel Volleyball Falls 3-0 Friday to Missouri

10/12/2018 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. --   Ole Miss volleyball suffered from a league-play sweep Friday in Gillom Athletics Performance Center, falling 16-25, 29-31, 19-25.

Junior Emily Stroup led the way with 14 kills, nearly pulling off her 11thdouble-double, registering nine digs and adding three aces. Senior Caitlin Wernentin and freshman Aubrey Sultemeier each tallied seven kills, with Sultemeier hitting at a .385 clip.

The Rebels got off to a sluggish start in the opening frame, allowing the Tigers to take the first three points and go on to lead by as many as 10 points in the set.

After dropping the opener 25-16,  the Rebels battled their way through the second stanza, going through 11 ties and six set points. After trailing 20-24 heading into a timeout, Ole Miss went on a 4-0 run courtesy of back-to-back aces from Stroup, a kill from Bars, and a Mizzou attack error.

The Tigers tied it up at 25, before Wernentin slammed back-to-back set points to give the Rebels the brief advantage twice. At the 29-28 mark, a big rejection from rookie Aubrey Sultemeier evened things once again before Ole Miss ultimately fell 31-29.

The pattern continued into the third frame, enduring 14 tied scores. The Tigers began to pull away late, going on a 5-0 rally to go up 23-17 before pulling off the sweep 25-19.
