Rebels Suffer Sunday to No. 16 Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Ole Miss volleyball suffered a Sunday sweep, falling 21-25, 14-25, 17-25 to No. 16 Kentucky at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.
Ole Miss slips to 11-10 and 1-6 in conference play, while Kentucky improves to 12-5 and remains undefeated in league play at 6-0.
Junior Emily Stroup registered her league-leading 11thdouble-double, recording 14 kills and 10 digs. Senior libero Caroline Adams tallied 20 digs, and freshman Aubrey Sultemeier led the charge at the net, putting up five blocks.
Kentucky came out firing in the opening stanza, picking up the first six points. After a quick tip over from junior setter Jordan Fate got the Rebels on the board, they slowly began inching back, narrowing the gap. After a UK error, a block from Sultemeier and an ace from sophomore setter Lauren Bars put Ole Miss within three at 19-22, the Wildcats regrouped, taking the frame 25-21. Sultemeier posted three rejections in the set.
The Rebels turned in a sluggish second game as Kentucky secured eight consecutive points to build a heavy lead Ole Miss was unable to overcome, dropping the frame 25-14.
Things started in Set 3 with a quick 3-0 run from the Wildcats, but Ole Miss cut things close to 9-7 on a block from Sultemeier and kill from Stroup. Kentucky fired back, turning in a five-point rally and taking 11 of the next 15 points to build a 21-12 lead.
Stroup and Sultemeier continued to respond, gaining assistance from senior Caitlin Wernentin as the Rebels took three straight points, cutting the deficit to 21-15. The mini rally wasn't enough, as Ole Miss dropped the contest 25-17 and suffered from a 3-0 loss in the match.
