WEST POINT, Miss. – Ole Miss women's golf is set to host the Magnolia Invitational (Oct. 14-16). The three-day event will begin Sunday morning at Old Waverly Golf Club, which will be playing 6,320 yards and par 72.
Head coach Kory Henkes is bringing eight Rebels to the home event. Conner Beth Ball will be in the No. 1 position, followed by Julia Johnson, Ellen Hutchinson-Kay, Pi-Lillebi Hermansson, and Kie Purdom. Macy Somoskey, Macy Holliday, and Martina Flori will compete as individuals.
"We're super excited about the Magnolia Invitational," Henkes said. "We are eager to get back on the course, taking the momentum from the finish in Denver here to our tournament. Old Waverly is a course this team is very familiar with and all of the girls are comfortable with their ability to play at the top of their game here."
"It's a top-notch golf course, definitely one of the best in the Southeast," Henkes said of Old Waverly. "It's going to be a challenge. It's going to be difficult for these players, but that's what we want."
This marks the third time this season that Ball, Johnson, and Hutchinson-Kay lead the Rebels. Last tournament in Denver the three all finished in the top-15 (Ball 2nd, Johnson T-5th, Hutchinson-Kay, T-13th).
Macy Somoskey will be making her Rebel debut this weekend, where Macy Holliday will begin her sophomore season.
Last year in the inaugural tournament, Ole Miss swept the awards. The Rebels shot 278-288-287--854 (-10), to best second-place Memphis (861).
Julia Johnson shot 7-under par and defeated Memphis' Abby Herrmann in a two-hole playoff on Old Waverly's 18th hole to become the first Magnolia Invitational champion.
First round begins tomorrow morning at 8:50 a.m. CT for Ole Miss, being paired with players from Mississippi State and Auburn.
