Zakrzeski ties fourth-best air rifle score in school history

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Freshman Jillian Zakrzeski tied the fourth-best air rifle score in program history to help the No. 16 Ole Miss rifle team post a season-best 4657, Saturday at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center. The Rebels (2303 smallbore, 2354 air rifle) outshot No. 10 Army (4653) and No. 14 Memphis (4619).

The match was a Great America Rifle Conference competition between Army and Memphis, meaning the Rebels were unable to record a win or a loss. The host Black Knights allowed Ole Miss to compete in hopes the Rebels could record a strong score for postseason consideration. On Sunday, the rifle squad will go head-to-head with Army in a GARC contest.

Zakrzeski impresses with overall win…
The redshirt from Constantia, New York, earned the top overall score (1171) with career-bests in smallbore (576) and air rifle (595). Zakrzeski's 595 sits tied for fourth in school history behind Alison Weisz (597 and 596), and Kamilla Kisch (596). All four marks have been set in the last three seasons.Three other Rebels cracked the overall top 10 (Harley Gardner, third; Randi Loudin, seventh; and Emily Cock, eighth).

Gardner opens strong in smallbore…
Senior Harley Gardner posted the second-highest score in smallbore (580) behind Army's Payne Nunn (583). Five of the eight Rebel smallbore competitors saw improved scores from the season-opening match on Sept. 29. Senior Randi Loudin posted a perfect 200 in the prone portion of the event on route to her 577. Sophomores Abby Buesseler (570) and Sophia Cuozzo (568) rounded out the Rebel scoring.

Huge strides in air rifle…
Ole Miss saw a seven-point improvement in air rifle, with its 2354 compared to the season opener. Zakrzeski's historic 595 powered her to a second-place finish behind Leighton Dempster of Memphis (596). Gardner (588), Cock (586), and Kisch (585) added to the total. Both competitors, Payne and Nunn, competed at the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships.
