Steven McRoberts Weekly Press Conference #8

10/15/2018 | Volleyball

Ole Miss head volleyball coach Steven McRoberts met with members of the media Monday as part of the fall sports weekly press conference... McRoberts discussed the Rebels week in SEC play and the upcoming schedule...

Opening Statement…
""Another tough weekend for us... I felt like going into last weekend that we were in our toughest stretch of the season. In my opinion, Missouri, Kentucky and now Florida coming up on Friday are the top three teams in the league. To hit them all back to back, I knew it was going to be a tough test for us. I thought we did a lot of nice things, which is kind of tough to say when you lose two matches 3-0. I thought we did a lot of nice things over the weekend, but consistency just continues to be an issue for us. We didn't get off to a great start in either the Missouri or Kentucky match, so we found ourselves fighting from behind in those first sets in both. We made the first set competitive against Kentucky and played a really nice second set against Missouri where we had multiple set points. We did the same thing when Georgia was here- we had set points in the first set, we had set points in the third set and didn't win either one. You think 'Man, if we could just get over that hump of winning one of those'. It would change the whole outlook of the match."

On what's next...
"Our game, if you have ever been to one of our matches, is so weird with momentum changes. A team that beats another team so bad in one set, can come back and lose the same way in the next one and it makes no sense. You can win 25-10, when you go back it is 0-0. You are not going into the next set with a 15 point lead that you were playing with. That is one think that we as a team need to mature with a little bit. We don't quite hit the panic button as much as we used to. We are still growing and looking at different options. Our biggest task right now is to find another victory. We tried a few different lineups this past weekend, and we will continue to do that as we go through practice this week. We have #11 Florida coming in. They were the national runner up last year. They handled us really easily at their place the opening match of the SEC. We have them Friday night, and we would appreciate people coming out after basketball does their night on the square. Then we would also love for you to come out on Sunday. Let's make it a "Beat Mississippi State" Day. We have the Bulldogs at 1:30. We would love to get a big crowd, and then everyone leaves after our match and go watch soccer to support them. One thing, which sounds like a broken record, that is truth, our team comes every day with such good attitudes and work so hard. We are disappointed because we feel like we are putting the work in and just not getting the results. We are going to keep plugging along, and again we would really appreciate those that can come out this weekend and support the team."
