OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 12 Ole Miss rifle team used two personal bests in smallbore to edge No. 8 North Carolina State, 4664-4628, Sunday at the Ole Miss Rifle Range. The victory was the Rebels' first Great America Rifle Conference win of the season (2312 smallbore, 2352 air rifle) and tied the seventh-best score in program history.

Ole Miss claimed the top four positions overall. Junior Hayley Carroll (1170), sophomore Abby Buesseler (1169), senior Randi Loudin (1167), and freshman Jillian Zakrzeski (1166) secured the top four spots. Loudin improved her season-best score for the second consecutive match. All four went 1-2-3-4 in smallbore as well.

Standing tall in smallbore…
A pair of Rebels tied or bettered their career marks in the event, outshooting NC State, 2312-2286. Buesseler tied her previous mark of 581, while Zakrzeski set a new career high with a 578. Seniors Loudin and Harley Gardner also counted with a 581 and 572, respectively. Four Ole Miss athletes tied or set personal bests for standing, including Carroll (193), Loudin (191), Erin Walsh (191), and Zakrzeski (190).

Owning the air…
The Rebels claimed the first four spots in air rifle, outscoring the Wolfpack, 2352-2342. Carroll (590), Buesseler (588), Zakrzeski (588), and Gardner (587) led the field. NC State's Emily Fisher also scored 587 points, just ahead of counters Loudin (586) and Kamilla Kisch (585).

Marsha's minute...
On personal bests…
"We were very pleased to have five shooters turn in smallbore scores of 575 and above. Jillian Zakrzeski's 578 was a new personal record and Erin Walsh had a personal best of 575. Hayley Carroll's 580 was one point off the personal best she fired yesterday, while Abby Buesseler tied her personal-best score of 581. Five athletes had scores above 190 in standing."

On performing strong…
"I am happy to see our scores reflect the progress we're making. Folks are working hard every day in practice. We just have to keep focused on making incremental gains and learning how to perform the way we want."
