NCAA Cross Country Championships Set for This Saturday (Nov. 17)

NEW ORLEANS – After both the Rebel men's and women's cross country teams secured bids to the NCAA Championships last week, the Ole Miss men moved up to No. 14 while the women remained ranked at No. 26 in the final USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.

On the men's side, Ole Miss put forth a dominant effort to win its third South Region title in five years, beating out second-place Florida State by 47 points to secure its fifth-straight berth to the national meet. Last week's performance followed up a historic trip to the SEC Championships, where the Rebel men secured the first SEC title in Ole Miss track or cross country history on Oct. 26.

Six Rebel men finished within the top-25 for NCAA All-South Region honors: Farah Abdulkarim (third), Waleed Suliman (sixth), Mark Robertson (eighth), Mario Garcia Romo (13th), Cade Bethmann (15th) and Ben Savino (20th).

This marks the 25th-straight appearance for the Ole Miss men, their 31st in the last 36 polls overall dating back to 2014. Additionally, the Rebel men have been at least receiving votes in 34 of the last 36 national coaches polls.

The Rebel women had to wait until the day after to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships after finishing third at the South Regional, marking their third-straight trip to nationals after having never qualified as a team prior to 2016.

Four Rebel women earned All-Region honors: Clio Ozanne-Jaques (fifth), Lisa Vogelgesang (14th), Maddie King (20th) and Ylvi Traxler (25th). Ozanne-Jaques' fifth-place finish was the highest finish by a Rebel woman at the regional meet in program history. The 10 total Rebels that earned All-Region honors across both teams ranked tied for the second-most in the NCAA.

Combined, this is the 17th occasion in program history where both the Rebel men and women have been ranked simultaneously. Ole Miss is one of just nine schools in the nation to send both its men's and women's programs to the national meet in each of the last three seasons – joining Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Iowa State, NC State, Oklahoma State, Oregon and Stanford. Additionally, Ole Miss is one of just seven programs in the NCAA with a chance to place both its teams within the top-25 for a third straight season alongside Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, NC State, Oregon and Stanford.

The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be run this Saturday, November 17, at the University of Wisconsin.
