This is the Third Time Vanhoy has been Named South Region Coach of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss associate head coach for track & field and cross country Ryan Vanhoy has been named the USTFCCCA Men's South Region Coach of the Year, the association announced Tuesday.
Vanhoy is in the midst of arguably his most successful season in six years at Ole Miss after leading the Rebel men to the first SEC title in program history on Oct. 26. Vanhoy and company followed that up with a dominant 47-point win over Florida State at the NCAA South Regional last week, the third South Region men's title for Ole Miss in just five seasons after wins in 2014 and 2016.
In total on the men's side this season, Vanhoy – this year's SEC Men's Coach of the Year as well – has mentored five All-SEC runners (three First-Team, two Second-Team), five All-Region runners and the SEC Freshman of the Year, Cade Bethmann.
This is the third time that Vanhoy has been honored as the South Region Coach of the Year after earning the men's honor in 2016 and the women's in 2017 following their first South Region title in program history last fall.
This coming Saturday, Ole Miss will send Vanhoy and both the Rebel men's and women's squads to the University of Wisconsin for the NCAA Championships – the third consecutive season that both teams have qualified. Ole Miss is one of just nine schools nationally to have sent both teams in each of the last three seasons, joining Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Iowa State, NC State, Oklahoma State, Oregon and Stanford.
Competition will begin with the women's championship 6K race at 10:45 a.m. CT, followed by the men's championship 10K race at 11:45 a.m. CT.
