LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ole Miss volleyball's stalwart Emily Stroup can add yet another honor to her 2018 resume, garnering AVCA South All-Region honors, as announced by the organization earlier this week.
The junior from Fargo, N.D., is now in contention for All-American status, which will be determined later this year. An All-SEC selection as well, Stroup ranked second in the country in kills, finishing the year with 584. That total broke the single-season record, which she surpassed against No. 12 Florida in mid-October, replacing herself from 2017 (474).
The honor is the second All-Region nod in her career after garnering the accolade last season. She is one of six outsides on the list, joining fellow SEC attacker Hollann Hans (Texas A&M), the Regional Player of the Year.
Stroup is the fifth player, and fourth under head coach Steven McRoberts, to earn AVCA All-Region honors.
Stroup was named a SEC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season, the first weekly conference award of her career. She set a single-match kills program record three times this season, first tallying 30 against LSU (10/7), then 31 against No. 25 Tennessee (11/2), and then again against LSU four days later (32, 11/7).
Stroup was second in the league with 15 double-doubles, after leading the conference for most of the season, and is the only player in the SEC to record at least 20 kills and 20 digs in a match, which she did on back-to-back occasions (10/5, Arkansas/ 10/7, LSU). Stroup had 12 matches this season with 20 or more kills, and three with 30 or better.
A communication sciences major, Stroup is also a member of the Chancellor's List and SEC Honor Roll. Earlier this month, she was named to the SEC Volleyball Community Service team, as well.
